A Daily Devotion for Thursday, November 11

Hebrews 11:1

Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.

Faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.

In my bible, I have written the second translation in tiny pencilled letters next to the printed verse. I remember the verse as it is written in pencil, because that is the translation I grew up with! I love the word ”assurance” being part of the verse. Faith and assurance go together. If we are fortunate, our parents taught us assurance by being there for us, every day, with their love and protection. We couldn’t see them when we were in school, but we knew they would return to us, and we knew they loved us. God is constant and dependable, like the best parent imaginable.

Holy Lord, you have taught me “blessed assurance”: Jesus is mine! Amen

Hebrews 11: 1 Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.

Faith is my foundation. It is the corner stone of Christian life. Faith is a belief in things I have not seen but believe. Faith to me is a trust in all that I have read in the Bible and believe. My faith is the confidence that I trust all that God has promised.

Dearest Lord, thank you for the grace of faith. It is through faith and hope that I have been able to meet all the challenges that this life has given to me. Faith in you is the cornerstone of my life. In Jesus name I pra…

Hebrews 11:1

Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. Faith comes from assurance. We don't just believe blindly. We have evidence of how God has moved in the past, and with this knowledge, we can confidently know he will come through for us in the future. Faith is daring to believe that we are as loved and forgiven as Jesus proclaims. Faith is trusting that God is at work, making us whole and new. All people are saved from God’s perspective. A lack of faith leaves us doubting that we are loved and forgiven, leaving us alone in our sin. I have faith that God does love me. I want my neighbors to…

Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.

This verse says it all. Faith is not just saying that we believe but it is the confidence that what the bible says is true and the certainty that it will happen as written.

Dear Lord I like to see before I accept but with the spirits daily help my assurance in my faith is increasing. Thank you. Amen.

Hebrews 11:1 - “Faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.”

This iconic verse sums up why those who insist on “proof” for why they should believe will never be satisfied and profess the notion that faith is “irrational.” Until one is met by the Holy Spirit, “hope” is just a wish. After being touched by grace, we understand a deeper meaning of hope and are tolerant of the fact that there are things that may be unseen, but are nevertheless true as the nose on our face. To follow Becky’s lead, I quote another hymn: “My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness . . . On Christ the…
