A Daily Devotion for Thursday, May 12

Romans 12:2

Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is- his good, pleasing and perfect will.

With this verse Paul reminds us that the closer we grow to God, the better we will understand Him. And in order to grow and transform alongside God, we must not lean-in to the world. I will have to meditate more on this. I understand the logic of it. There is so much mystery involved with God’s will, though. Is everything that happens in the world God’s will? It is hard to imagine the mess we have made of things to be God’s will. But we know God can work goodness and mercy into and through anything. Maybe that is what Paul is referring to. This is what we can see more clearly, the closer we get to God.

Holy Lord, lead me and guide me. Thy will be done. I would like to understand more, more clearly. Amen

Romans 12:2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. I am learning that I am perfectly useless as a believer if all I do is conform to this world around me. If I am not wasting my live with this kind of earthly success I am being transformed. First of all I have to understand what is the will of God. Throughout the Bible the will of God often means what he saids he does and it always happens. God is sovereign. He decides what happens. He gave u…

The pattern of this world belongs to Satan ever since the sins of Adam and Eve. Unfortunately, we are born into sin. It is through the grace of the Holy Spirit that we are transformed by learning what is good and acceptable to God. I need to keep my focus on Jesus and continue to learn and walk with him.

Dearest Lord, my mind often slips from Jesus onto the things in my life. Especially when times are difficult. Keep the Hol…

Romans 12:2

it seems pretty obvious the pattern of this world is not the way to transformation. We have been given Scripture and the guidance of the Holy Spirit to renew our minds. Scripture, which we as a group read and think about each morning, is the curriculum and the Spirit is the teacher. They are inseparable. We all have seen examples people interpreting Scripture to say what they want it to say, even if it is clearly out of context or defies the plain reading if the text itself. Scripture interprets Scripture. Only Scripture as guided by the Holy Spirit will reveal God’s good pleasing and perfect will.

Prayer - Transforming God, faithful reading of Scripture is a daily…

Romans 12:2 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of the world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. It is fascinating to realize that these words were written by Paul about AD 57 to the church at Rome. Here we are now thousands of years later needing the same advice. It was probably new advice for living to the people of the Roman church. It is not new advice for us. We are admonished again and again not to conform to the world culture of sin but to seek God‘s will for us. I’m not sure, but…
