A Daily Devotion for Thursday March 7

John 14:27

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

I wish I could do a better job of living out this verse. Jesus' peace is mine- it is there for me, and I need only recognize it and live in it. Why does this seem so difficult sometimes? Being emotionally "well" is just as important as being physically "well" when we look at our brief existence as breathing humans in God's creation. If I trust Jesus Christ, I can take these words to heart.

Holy Lord, you know all about what troubles me. Help me to take in your peace, and live with the knowledge I am right where I need to be, doing what I need to do. Amen

John 14:27

The peace that I’m finding through my grief is amazing healing process , this scripture made me chuckle and smile! yes, I had just read it moments before on a poem booklet of my Mom’s “let not your heart be troubled” by Helen Steiner Rice then I have been re-reading the many sympathy cards the many different scriptures quoted cards is the he is giving me!

Good and Gracious Lord, thank you for the peace you give to me through the scriptures and please continue your heal me and let me not be afraid. Amen

John 14:27

With this verse, a knowing Jesus leaves his disciples with the gift of peace of mind and heart. I’m not sure they understood how much they would need this gift in the days ahead. When Jesus next appears to the disciples after the crucifixion in the locked Upper Room, he greets them with the words “Peace be with you.” I’m sure they needed to hear theses words from him after what they had witnessed. Then he passed his gifts on to them. I used to think peace meant quiet and aloneness. I think the peace Jesus gives us is the security of his love in all situations.

John 14:27

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.

This kind of piece is a choice. When we are faced with potentially upsetting circumstances  we can let our hearts to be troubled and afraid. Or we can let Jesus ‘s perfect peace calm us in every circumstance which gives us courage and strength for every new challenge. We can permit ourselves to be fearful or we can be at peace. When I fully commit myself to be like Christ by serving others, then my problems and struggles seem to be les…

John 14:27

Fixing our thoughts on obtaining the peace of mind Jesus gives can bring healing every bit as much as fixing a broken bone in place with a cast can heal the break. The “peace”‘ that the world gives is a masquerade, a trap that leaves us on a human hamster wheel to nowhere. We become like Sisyphus, forced to roll an immense rock up a steep hill only to have it roll back down when we are near the top - and the demons fall about the place in laughter. The world can try, but I will try just as hard to let not my heart be troubled or to be afraid.

Prayer - Lord, I seek Your…
