A Daily Devotion for Thursday, March 3

Matthew 28:18-20

Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

These three verses tell the whole story. Jesus identifies himself as one with God, and having all authority, sends out the disciples. All nations are included, and we are promised eternity with Jesus. As a disciple of Christ, it is my job to carry out these commands. I agree with Roz; some of us carry out these commands in our own hometowns, at work, and with friends. I need to be more transparent and more easily identified as a Christian.

Lord above, help me to be a Christian who is more readily and easily identified as such. Help me to make it visible to all I meet; your Holy Spirit lives in me. Amen

Matthew 28:18-20

How do I explain Jesus to others without sounding like a psycho. I would be terrified if I was told to go out and make disciples of all the nations. This commission was given to 11 men, not just one, these men followed Jesus each and every day throughout his ministry, they knew they could be strong because they obeyed him. Jesus promised to be with them, even to the end of the age. I am blessed to be in a Bible study class, where these questions can be discussed and we will learn from each other as to how we can care out this great commission in this day and age. I am not ask…

Jesus commanded us to make disciples. A disciple is not simply one who has completed the course, but one who continues to learn as a lifetime commitment. In order to do this, I need to grow in my personal relationship with Jesus. If I am a follower of Jesus, I will be involved in evangelism and…

Matthew 28:18-20

Known in Christian teaching as “The Great Commission,” Jesus passes the torch of His earthly mission to the Apostles who will go on to spread the gospel message globally. I read yesterday about the last known Christian in a town in Syria that formerly was the home of 10,000 Christians. Most left or were killed in an Islamic purge of Christians in 2015 and the rest gradually drifted away in the face of continued persecution. This man, now 92 and living alone with only the pigeons he raises, is living out the Great Commission by ensuring a presence of Christ in his world, daily praying in Jesus name without fear. Regardless of the persecution or outright banning o…

Matthew 28:18–20 20. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Up to this point, Jesus had been teaching his 12 disciples to carry on his work. Now, however, at the end of his life, he hands this job over to them.“Go and make disciples“ famous words. If you consider that those new disciples will also make new disciples, because that is their charge, this is how the church grew and continues to grow. I know the many disciples that have nurtured my faith from childhood to today. From parents, to pastors, to Sunday school teachers, choir directors, and Bible…
