2 Thessalonians 1:11-12

With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may bring to fruition your every desire for goodness and your every deed prompted by faith. We pray this so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Our calling is a way of life. In most cases it is as described in this letter; because of our calling, we have a "desire for goodness" and we seek to do "deed(s) prompted by faith." We need His power to bring these things to fruition. Prayer is the piece I too often leave out, and it is probably the most important part of the process. Without prayer, I drift away, and cannot hear God's direction. It is called a "calling" for a reason- it involves listening.

Holy Lord, help me to listen and to hear your direction. I have heard you calling me. Amen

2 Thessalonians 1:11-12

Christ died so that we might live. Because of our faith in His death and resurrection, we are called children of God and have a dear and gracious heavenly Father, Who is the God of all mercies. In His grace He has promised to help us in times of troubles an…

2 Thessalonians 1:11-12 God can speak anytime, but it is in prayer we are most likely to more clearly hear our call. When my prayer life is dry or has become rote and without power, I feel rudderless and drifting. Yesterday I read about the late Bishop Sundo Kim of the Korean Methodist Church white died in 2022. His dedication to prayer was among his many admirable traits. He kept a small (4’ X 6’) prayer closet in his office, where he spent at least one hour per day (often more) in prayer. He was quoted as saying, "Without a prayer life, you will not know the will of God." This simple statement echoes Paul‘s message to the Thessalonians. Without prayer,…
