A Daily Devotion for Thursday, January21

Romans 8: 12-18

verse 15: For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry , “Abba, Father.”

God created us to be part of his family. He is our Father, even if or when we have no one else. In our little family here on earth, we need one another, and we love each other with love that is stronger than any other earthly emotion. It has just occurred to me- this is only a fraction of God’s love for His creation. We have a sense of the enormity of God’s love for us because he taught us love. (1John 4:19 We love because he first loved us.) God is our Father, and we are never alone.

Father God, you taught us how to love, because you love us so. I am eternally thankful. Amen

Romans 8:12-18

we all want to become men and woman of God, so that our life glorifies the God who saved us. Knowing this purpose, I try to have a plan not to sin. Usually, I fall into patterns of living that sets me up for sinning. when I am easily tempted by ways that are not God’s way,I try to set up safeguards and accountability to keep me away from the temptation. Stay away from people or places where you could fall. Discipline implies going against my immediate feelings and aim for a higher goal. We can knock the fruit off the tree, but if we don’t want it to grow, we’ve got to cut the tr…

Romans 8: 12-18

13 For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live.

It is through the Holy Spirit that we are able to repent. Without the knowledge we receive from the Holy Spirit we would not care if we offended God. When the Holy Spirit works in our hearts we see the error of our ways and ask for forgiveness and turn toward Jesus.

Dearest Lord you gave the Holy Spirit to us in order to know you and love you. It is through the Spirit that we know right from wrong and repent. Thank you for filling my heart…

20210121 Thursday, Daily Devotion - Romans 8:13 (NIV)

13 For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live.

Today’s scripture talks about “living and death.” I often think that I am not alive even though I can breathe. The Bible says if we die here on earth, we are not dead. Actually, God told Adam and Eve that “You certainly die if you eat the fruit of the tree of the good and evil” but they did not die physically. Having remembered this, the death or living in the Bible is not talking about our physical living or death but spiritual…

Romans 8:18 - “I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory about to be revealed to us.”

This is a concise statement of Christian hope. As pastor Gil has preached, hope is not merely wishing for a particular outcome. Hope has everything to do with faith. Hebrews 11:1 tells us "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Hope is the confidence we have through the mystery of faith - Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again. Whether that happens in my lifetime is far less important than the glory that will be revealed and the end of all suffering. “My hop…
