A Daily Devotion for Thursday, Jan. 28

Updated: Feb 10, 2021

Hebrews 10: 19-25

verses 23-25: Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another - and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

The entire passage for today is so hopeful and so positive. It “reminds” me of the faithfulness of God. It reminds me of our purpose on earth- to do good for one another and to love one another. It reminds me we need to meet together, to be together and to encourage one another. I needed these positive words today. I am so glad our sanctuary is going to be repaired! I think God is probably pleased, too.

Heavenly Father, thank you for seeing the way forward for CUMC to gather again in our sanctuary. With the vaccine and the end of the pandemic in sight, we can be together in person again before too long, if it is your will. I will hold your promises close, and know you are with us. Amen

Hebrews 10:19-25

From Bible apps to flat screen TVs, technology is everywhere and can come in various convenient forms. However, when it comes to connecting us to scripture, We have significant privileges if our life is in Christ. We can have a close relationship with him without any elaborate technology. We so need encouragement from each other to share our faith and to strengthen one another in the Lord as we worship together. The Lord knows that without trials or tribulations in life, our faith would not be tested, and we would not grow or persevere; and without perseverance our lives would not be transformed. This passage puts it quite strongly, the Christian life should be a life full …

2021-1028 Thursday, Daily Devotion - Hebrews 10:19-24 (NIV)

19 Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have the confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, 20 by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, 21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.

Today’s scripture reconfirmed to me that the only way to enter the Most Holy Place is the blood of Jesus Christ because God…

Hebrews 10: 19-25

19 therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, 20 by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body

With Jesus’ death the barrier between us and God was removed. All of us experience the forgiveness of Christ through his death and can now enter freely into eternal life. Through Jesus death I have been given a great and secure hope for the future. Until the time comes when He returns, I will aim to keep going in the right direction moving toward love and good deeds. My goal is to be more active in my faith and less…

Hebrews 10:23 - “Let us hold fast to the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who has promised is faithful.”

The heading over this passage in the NRSV Bible is “A Call to Persevere.” Now is certainly the time to hold fast to hope. As spring approaches, and with it new life, color and warmth, it serves as a symbol of the promises of God and better days ahead. Scripture repeatedly reminds us God will never leave or forsake us. We must never forget that He who has promised is faithful.

Prayer - God of promise, You are both the source and the object of our hope. Help us to persevere through difficult times to emerge on the…
