A Daily Devotion for Thursday, February 27

Ephesians 5:15-17

Be very careful, then, how you live —not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.

We recently looked at this verse in the context of “opportunity.” Now we look again, thinking about “time”. I am struck now with the connection between the two. Time is fleeting, and with that, an opportunity to do good may pass us by. I wonder about the phrase, “because the days are evil.” Is this an admonition against idleness? Are there temptations and other evils waiting for just the right moment of idleness? Is wasting time a sin?

Holy Lord, I know that you gave me life for a reason. Sometimes the reason is clear to me, sometimes it is less clear. Help me to use the time you have graciously given me, to follow you and to follow your good and perfect will. Amen

Ephesians 5:15-17

Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.

This verse is very clear as to how I should spend my time and how to adjust my walk making correct choices to prioritize my live that align with God's purpose. Avoiding any distractions that would hinder what God wants me to do in each situation, especially when faced with the challenges and temptations of this world we live in today.  I need to concentrate   On how I am using  my days  for good rather than…

Ephesians 6:15-17

We must choose our path in life carefully. Our words, deeds and thoughts should reflect the love of our Father. With evil all around us in this day and age, we must not only carefully choose our path, but walk carefully down that path, who we choose to surround ourselves with, how we navigate our relationships, the decisions we make, how we are influenced and how we influence others. We cannot waste our days on this earth and we should try to leave this earth with an “empty tank”.

Heavenly Father, help me to use my time on earth wisely, please guide me through a life that can be an example to others and that exudes your love.…

Ephesians 5:15-17

One of my favorite verses is Be still and know that I am God. That kind of still is what I (we) do most mornings as transformers. We stop and read His word. Then we think hard about what it means to us. I think this time is making the most of that opportunity. I do need to work on the time I spend on my Ipad. I am always amazed when it tells me how many hours I averaged over the week. I do use it for research, but I know there is way too much FaceBook scrolling being done. I am working on that!

Prayer: Gracious God, help me turn my scrolling time over to you…

Ephesians 5:15-17

The old saying, “idle hands are the devil’s workshop,” is operative here. If we are but a mist, it behooves us to redeem the time we have. I do not take this to mean there will no time for rest or leisure as there are many Scriptural references to waiting on and resting in the Lord. I do take it to mean we should minimize and try to avoid altogether empty pursuits that do not edify, strength body and mind, increase knowledge and wisdom or honor God. The ubiquitous electronic screens so prominent in our lives today can be instruments of time well-spent or time utterly wasted. Same for the things we read, our recreational activities and how…
