A Daily Devotion for Thursday, February 22

Colossians 3:23-24

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.

I think it would be easy to read this and then measure our "inheritance" by what we have accomplished. But I don't think God is so interested in what we achieve; I believe God is watching how we live, the decisions we make, and the effort we put into things which show our love for one another. We are not competing against one another. Sometimes we may be "competing" with the forces of evil.

Lord God, I can sense your Holy Spirit at work in me. Help me to stay connected, to work hard, and to compete with anything that might get in the way of my living out your good and perfect will. Amen

Colossians 3:23-24

To me, this passage says simply do your best at whatever you are doing. Do not hold back! If you are working, give your employer your best. If you are playing a game, do your best. If you are working around the house, do your best.  No matter what you are doing, do your best, give everything you can.

When I am writing, as I am now, I put everything I have into what I…

Colossians 3:23-24

I was always taught to do my best no matter what the “job” was. Maybe it was doing my homework, creating a research paper in college, working for .50 cents and hour baby sitting, or teaching 5 high school, classes with a salary of $5200 a year. I see so many young people today leaving good jobs for silly reasons; it was boring, I don’t like the people I work with, or it doesn’t pay enough! If we all could realize that all we do is an important part of our lives and we should want the Lord to be proud of our efforts.

Prayer: Gracious God, I pray that more people would realize that you are watchin…

This is the best deal you and I are  ever going to get. Working for Jesus is the best bargain anyone could ever hope for. . We’ll find that God works through our life to bring healing, joy, peace, and goodness to others. As we work at this promise w e  will gain the kind of life we’ve always wanted. We will be at ease,  even though it might contain difficulties at times. We’ll love wh…

Colossians 3:23-24

The phrase in this passage that lingers for me is. “working for the Lord, not for human masters.” There have been teachers and mentors I have worked hard to please because of my respect for them. By the same token I have had some teachers and supervisors who did not earn respect. Does that mean I don’t give my best effort when under their leadership? Scripture does not give me that option. It does not matter which or what kind of person is leading. A Christian is to put forth their best for the Lord. Imagine the difference we would see in the customer service sector and public sector bureaucracies if this was a universally accepted standard. There…
