Luke 14:28
"Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won't you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it?"
In the NIV translation, this verse is part of a passage entitled, "The Cost of Being a Disciple." I seldom think of following Jesus as having a cost to me. But if one makes a commitment to live their life as a Christian, they can't ignore the cost. Following Christ means not following the crowd. It means not doing what everyone else is doing, but doing the right thing. I have not always made the right choice. My debt is to God and I pray for forgiveness. May I always walk in His light along His path. Amen

Luke 14:28
For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it?
God created the earth in six days and than he rested. He did not rest until he was finished. He always finishes what he set out to do. As children of God it is so important to finish what we start. We need to imitate God and be an example of him in this world. We need to be careful and thoughtful before we commit to anything, making sure that once we start we can follow through to completion. The Holy spirit recognizes that once we start we can…
Luke 14:28
Sometimes folks overextend themselves financially and dive into deep water without considering the ongoing cost. I think of a house that Becky and I purchased in Staten Island. It was a lovely house. I don’t regret our time there, but it was not really affordable for us in that season of our lives. We were only in it a few years before moving to NH and when we left, the house was still sparsely furnished and at closing we barely broke even, in fact we lost a few bucks. People who impulsively jump into Christianity thinking it will instantly solve all their problems soon find out it is not that simple. If not discipled and encouraged, they are…
Luke 14:28
Everything comes with a cost. That cost could be money, it could be time, and more drastically a life. I will admit that when I see a ministry I would like to do, I often do not consider its cost. I should, because I am at times overwhelmed with time commitments. I have learned (the hard way) that my YES to a request has to come with a “let me check my schedule!” If I don’t do this, I often regret my yes and I do not want to regret helping people!
Prayer: Gracious God, help me to use my time wisely as I try to do your work. Amen
