Romans 8:26

In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we aught to pray for, but the spirit itself intercedes for us through wordless groans.

I started out trying to put into words some kind of understanding of this passage, but the more I tried, the more I couldn’t. I am struck this morning with my own “concrete-ness”. I only know that God can see and understand what I cannot put into words. And since God lives in me as the Holy Spirit, I don’t always have to have the right words in order to communicate with Him.

Holy Father, I can sense a new and deeper understanding forming in me. I am so thankful. Help me to grow closer. Help me to do good things for others. Help me to be clean and worthy of your presence in me. Amen

Romans 8:26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.

The Holy Spirit knows what is in my heart. The Holy Spirit has helped me with my hidden hurts and secret hopes. I feel that the Holy Spirit has helped me find my way again back to God. This is why I attempt to say, “Thy will be done”, even when I would like to control the outcomes. The Holy Spirit knows me and will assist me in my life.

Dearest Lord, thank you for sending the Holy Spirit. He knows my inner most thoughts, so that…

Romans 8:26

Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.

This verse focuses on prayer. When we don’t know how to pray as we ought to, the Holy Spirit will pray with and through us. It is through these prayers guided by the Holy Spirit that all things will work together for our own good. Not all things that happen to us are good by themselves but God is good and he can cause them to work toward our good if we just trust him. God’s word brings comfort and peace…

Romans 8:26 Despite the uniquely American image of the rugged individualist who can face the world alone, we know in our heart of hearts this is a myth and that every one of us has weaknesses that require help beyond ourselves. This is demonstrated on an earthly level in the benefits of life in community as opposed to isolation. On a spiritual level, our weaknesses are compensated for by the Comforter, the Advocate Jesus proclaimed would be sent on our behalf. We may not even know what it is we need, and this is where the Spirit does His most miraculous work if only we are willing to yield.

Romans 8:26

From the message:

Meanwhile, the moment we get tired in the waiting, God‘s spirit is right along side helping us along. If we don’t know how or what to pray, it doesn’t matter. He does our praying in and for us, making prayer out of our wordless sighs and aching groans.

When we are at our lowest. When we are ready to give up. When all we can do is cry or scream, the Holy Spirit steps in. Prayer for our needs happens even without us sometimes. What a friend Jesus has left us. The spirit is always there, waiting to be of help.

Prayer: gracious God, what a blessing to know that in our wordless despair, you…
