A Daily Devotion for Thursday, August 10

John 1:12-13

Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God--children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God.

Jesus gives us the opportunity to be closer to God. Through Jesus we are born again into a different sort of relationship with God. It is difficult for me to keep that reality in the forefront of my mind. I am so in the habit of staring down my faults; I spend more time doing that then rejoicing in my relationship with Christ.

Lord, help me to remember that through my relationship with Christ, anything is possible for me. Amen

John 1:12-13

To be a child of God always made me feel special, especially as a youngster. I even remember when I realized who I was. My ninth grade English teacher asked us to describe who we were. (Not our name) He went around the room and when he came to shy, introvert me I remembered a discussion in Sunday School about this verse. I answered that I was a Child of God, a daughter, and a friend. I don’t remember anyone’s reaction then—1956– but I imagine today it might raise a few eyebrows.

Prayer: Gracious God, May I always feel the comfort of being your child. Amen

John 1:12-13

But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.

Oh, what an awesome truth. Through faith in Jesus, for all who believe will receive his grace. It’ not those who have worked the hardest, have done the best. No, it’s the people who received him. When I give my kids a gift, they don’t say, Oh, you really worked hard for this. They say thank you, because I am giving it freely. That’s how God is. He gives us th…

John 1:12-13 I have heard it said that even if all we had of the Bible was John’s gospel, that alone contains enough to lead a person to salvation. This book is teeming with profound truths about Jesus as our Shepherd leading us to heaven. One of the most amazing is that His grace is made freely available to all who receive Him. if your heart and head can harmoniously say, “I believe,” salvation is yours. This makes the work of sanctification a much desired goal and a joy rather than drudgery and a burden. We are gIving thanks, not trying to earn perks.

Prayer - Jesus, I have received You and am forever grateful for what lies ahead. It is…
