A Daily Devotion for Monday, September 7

Isaiah 49:13-18

Shout for joy, you heavens;

rejoice, you earth;

burst into song, you mountains!

For the LORD comforts his people

and will have compassion on his afflicted ones.

But Zion said, “The LORD has forsaken me,

the Lord has forgotten me.”

“Can a mother forget the baby at her breast

and have no compassion on the child she has borne?

Though she may forget,

I will not forget you!

See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands;

your walls are ever before me.

Your children hasten back,

and those who laid you waste depart from you.

Lift up your eyes and look around;

all your children gather and come to you.

As surely as I live, ” declares the LORD,

“you will wear them all as ornaments;

you will put them on, like a bride.”

Matthew 28:20

“….and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

This is one of those mornings when it is difficult for me (using my own tiny brain) to find a timely application of these scriptures to my life. There is, of course, always gratitude. (I have heard that in any moment, gratitude and anxiety cannot coexist.)

I am grateful for my family, my supportive friends, old and new, my good health and my comfortable home. I am grateful for my husband Tom, who is steady through any troubles thrown his way. I am grateful for music, art and literature, which are gifts from God which I enjoy daily. I am grateful for scripture, which gives me a window, always open, to God’s love and guidance. I am grateful for being placed on this earth and allowed to worship my all- powerful God, three in one, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen
