A Daily Devotion for Monday, September 20

Proverbs 3: 5-6

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

This message should be on billboards for me to read to and from work every day. When I am preoccupied or worried about something, it can take me days to remember to give up the burden to God, and stop trying to figure it out myself. It is always the right choice for me to turn to God. Always. No exceptions.

Father God, You are here for me, always. I am sorry for the times I try to figure things out on my own or fix things on my own. Everything I have, everything I accomplish, every good and pure thought which passes through my mind, is from you. Amen

Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your path (Proverbs 3:5-6). This is one of the more often-quoted verses of the entire Bible. Solomon offers sound advice for life. The verse instructs me/us to put all my/our trust in the Lord and not on my/our own knowledge. The verse tells us not to be depend solely on our strength and knowledge, but to trust in the Lord. Those instructions are true when it comes to the biggest issue of life and true when it comes to the everyday challenges of life. We may not be able to figure out w…

Proverbs 3:5–6 One of our choir anthems echo these words. Trust in the Lord. When? 1. When the night is darkest. 2. When all hope is gone. 3,. When you feel abandoned, etc. BUT Why do we wait so long? Why do we depend on our own understanding? As humans we always seem to think it is our job to solve it all. We often wait too long to turn to God – but as Christians, we finally do turn to God. Prayer, Gracious God, May I be learning through these verses to turn to you first not last. Amen

Proverbs 3: 5-6

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.

I have a desperate desire to understand and yet I acknowledge that I do not understand everything. I have to put my trust in God, because I know that whatever happens in my life, God is always in control. It is sometimes difficult to do, but I am learning that I have to trust God in good times and bad times. When things seem to be falling apart, I still have to put my trust in God. I hope that when I look back on this time…

Proverbs 3: 5-6

My track record when leaning on my own understanding is poor. Selfishness and vanity are hardly pillars on which to build a life. The paths of my life, in marriage, family and career were made straight not by my understanding, but in placing my trust in God. I will continue to trust in this new season of life and do so with no sense of anxiety at all. God’s track record is far more reassuring than mine.

Prayer - God of straight paths, by faith, through grace, I will continue to place my trust in You. Even when I fail and try to lean on my own understanding, by Your mercy, the burden this inevitably brings is…
