A Daily Devotion for Monday, September 11

Hebrews 13:15-16

Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer a sacrifice of praise--the fruit of lips that openly profess his name. And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.

These are the types of sacrifices which we are all able and encouraged to do. These are sacrifices of time. I am wondering about the sacrifice of praise: 'the fruit of lips that openly profess his name'. When I think about this in terms of my life, I am brought right back to giving up worldly pursuits and allegiances. Do I spend as much time talking about God as I do talking about other, unimportant things? Do I spend as much time praising God as I do complaining about the weather or how difficult my day was? These verses bring me back to a better starting place for each day. In shorter form: "Remember to praise God today, and to be kind and generous to others." Give up worldly and unimportant concerns for now.

Holy Lord, help me to keep my mind and my heart in tune with you all day long. I have to go to work, but I can still praise you and be open with my faith.

I am so very thankful, God, for all of your many blessings, and for your unimaginable grace. Amen

Hebrews 13:15-16

Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name. Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.

A sacrifice is something you give that costs you something. it often brings pain or discomfort.. when we act only within the area of our own comfort it is not offering God any sacrifice of praise at all, and he will not be pleased. Sometimes i can get out of the habit of praise, so I do this. Place a note pad in a place where you'll see it to remin…

Hebrews 13:15-16

Those of us in this group and many around us live out the first sentence. We attend church, sing his praises, pray, and are members of other groups doing the same. BUT then there is the AND at the start of verse 16. We must live out our love of Jesus by sharing with those less fortunate. We must be the verb of sacrifice. We must be doers of the word.

Prayer: Gracious God, although I never think of my ministries as a sacrifice, I understand the writers use of the word. May I always be a does. Amen

Hebrews 13:15-16

”. . . do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.“ It is a sad statement on the human condition that doing good and sharing with others is a sacrifice. In the new, redeemed earth after the promised return of Christ, these things will come as naturally as breathing. In our time, believers are charged with being the models of a Godly life marked by humility and selflessness. Jesus’ teaching is just as counter-cultural today as when He walked among us.

Prayer - Lord of all, accept our praise of sacrifice and keep us ever mindful of the task before us in a culture so willing to…
