A Daily Devotion for Monday, October 19

Updated: Oct 20, 2020

Philippians 2: 5-12

verses 5-7: Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.

Jesus did a lot of teaching, sharing parables and insights into God’s word. He also taught by example, every minute of every day of his ministry on earth. He modeled perfect behavior for us to see and study and emulate. It seems like it should be easy to “be like Jesus” and act accordingly in all situations. But for me, it is not easy a lot of the time. Human behavior comes naturally and automatically sometimes. Godly behavior is not always automatic for me. The closer I hold Jesus, the better my chances of making a good choice.

Heavenly Father, you came to earth to show the way. Jesus is my example, my light and my path. Lead me, Lord. Amen Becky, transforming

20201019 Monday, Daily Devotion - Philippians 2:7 (NIV)

7 Rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.

I started thinking, reading and meditating about “Deep-Rooted Life/Person” from last Sunday evening. I was challenged by Richard Foster’s saying, “The desperate need today is not for a greater number of intelligent people, or gifted people, but deep people.” I totally agree with him that what I really need in my life is deep people who can communicate deep thoughts about our lives. But not only myself but also everyone needs deep people who have deep communication with each other.

Philippians 2:7 describes what Jesus did to be like the likeness of people.…

Philippians 2:5-12 5. Your attitude should be the same  as that of Jesus Christ

Jesus was humble and willing to give up all his rights in order to obey God and serve the  people. Like Jesus I should have a servant’s attitude because I do love  God and I want to love others. I never want to have a constant  selfish  attitude ( known as me, myself and I). I want to change my attitude Instead of thinking the world revolves around me, I can  take all of this selfish energy and look for any opportunity to serve others.  If I want to follow Christ I must always try to live as he lived. I need to develop an attitude o…

Philippians 2: 5-12

5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus

I often think of how Jesus would react to the way I think sometimes. How Jesus sacrificed for me and yet I fall short of being like him. I don’t have that same sacrificial attitude. I would like to be more like him. I hope and pray that I do not put limitations on my willingness to give my time and help to my fellow Christians.

Dearest Jesus, give me the grace to be more like you in everything I do. I need your help in overcoming this selfish streak that is in me. I love you dearest Jesus and hope to become…

Philippians 2:12 - “Therefore, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed me, not only in my presence, but much more now in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.”

Integrity has been described as doing the right thing even when no one is looking. I sense a bit of that in Paul’s encouragement of the Philippians. We all are likely familiar with folks who can really make themselves look good when attention is on them but behave abominably when they can get away with it. Paul reminds us that living a life that seeks sanctification will not by easy and at times will be frightening. Nevertheless, we must remember that even though human eyes may…
