Matthew 13:10-12
The disciples came to him and asked, "Why do you speak to the people in parables?" He replied, "Because the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them. Whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them..."
I am not sure I understand what Jesus meant here, but to me, the implication is this: there is plenty to know and learn, but it might take a bit of effort. If one is not interested, and makes no effort, they will get nothing from the parables. The parables will remain confusing, odd stories. But those with the help of the Holy Spirit and belief and knowledge of Christ, will have access to the abundance of teaching/wisdom found in these stories, and will grow in Christ.
Holy Father, I admit I have not looked very deeply into the meaning behind some of your parables. I am realizing I may have missed important insights. Sometimes they seem very simple, but now I am realizing there is no doubt much, much more for me to learn from them. Thank you, Lord. Amen

Matthew 13:10-12
Then the disciples came and said to him, “Why do you speak to them in parables?” And he answered them, To you it has been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given. For to the one who has, more will be given, and he will have an abundance, but from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away.
Jesus has just told the Parable of the Sower –and they asked, why not just say what you want to say. And Jesus gives them his answer. Basically Jesus tells them that some are meant to get it and othe…
Matthew 13:10–12 Yes, those parables are often very difficult to understand. That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try. I think the keywords here are “Those who listen… More understanding will be given.” As we read God’s word, there are difficult things we may not understand, but by rereading, sharing, and more study, we often find the meaning in the words. That is the best part of transformers and any Bible study. We listen and learn from others things we did not understand at first. Sharing with others broadens God’s word for us. Prayer: gracious God, made my ears really “listen” as I read your words and may I always have others to share them with. Amen
It seems like there is confusion about Jesus' answer regarding speaking in parables. I also didn't get it. My first thought was that Jesus felt that those who were not disciples were ignorant and had to be told things in story form. My second thought was that I didn't get it.
Matthew 13: 10-12 The disciples came to him and asked, “Why do you speak to the people in parables?” He replied, “Because the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them. Whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them.
“God’s Abundance” God has given me so much in this lifetime. Three beautiful children, a wonderful husband in David and so much more. These precious things are just a small sampling of all that has been given to me in this life. These are priceless treasures, but the most wonderful treasure is my belief…
Matthew 13:10-12
What is this “knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven” of which Jesus speaks? Is it that He is indeed Messiah? How is it that the parables would be the key to unlock that knowledge? That could only be the work of the Holy Spirit, no? Obviously, for me, the abundance in this passage is in the abundance of questions it raises. Scripture can be like that, inspiring, illuminating and at times puzzling.
Prayer - Holy Spirit, impart to me when I lack understanding, the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven. Amen
