I Corinthians 10:13

No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.

This is an interesting passage to read in the context of "peer pressure". We are reminded of our shared humanity- we are not truly unique- not in our temptations, anyway. We can't make the excuse that it was just "not possible" or "too difficult" to walk away from making a bad decision. God has seen it all, and He has given each one of us the tools to turn away from sinning. Peers are so important to all of us, and make us feel included and secure. But when we feel ourselves being coaxed away from our moral standards, we always have a way out. I can think of times in my life when I have allowed others to move me off course. But I have no one to blame but myself. Those mistakes were avoidable. I pray to God for forgiveness for all of the times I did not try hard enough to avoid sin. May He have mercy. Amen

1 Corinthians 10:13

Paul’s advice is so clear. We are all tempted by the same things. We are not singled out for troubles. With God’s help we can overcome any struggles and he even will show us how. This last sentence struck me as being very important. I think of all the “help” there is out there. For example, AA, Al-Anon, all kinds of drug therapies, overeating, anorexia, the list goes on and on. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so you can endure. You just have to believe and when you do the Holy Spirit will guide you.

Prayer: gracious God, I thank you for all the help you offer those who are struggling.…

1 Corinthians 10:13

No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.

When I have given into any temptation, do I blame God, because he was not there to help me. One very important lesson I have learned in this life is that no one, no one but me is responsible for my actions or inaction. If I allow any kind of peer pressure to tempt me it will always be my decision that allows this to happen. The Hol…

I Corinthians 10:13 This verse lays waste to all “the devil made me do it” excuses. If the Holy Spirit is living in us, we will not only know the more excellent way, but we will be empowered to do it. This is the essence of a victorious life in Christ. We must remain vigilant and obedient otherwise it is too easy to get sucked into the world’s way of doing things. Sin is common to all mankind and we are utterly dependent on Holy Spirit power to hold it at bay.

Prayer - Holy Spirit, be my guide and advocate in this world that is drenched in temptation. May all be mere negligible distractions on the path I want to…
