A Daily Devotion for Monday, March 18

Acts 1:1-11

verses 6-7: Therefore, when they had come together, they asked Him, saying, “Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” And He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority.”

These verses kind of surprised me this morning. The disciples really were still confused about what Jesus was up to. They still expected some kind of a warrior/magician. Typing these words feels harsh, but hadn’t Jesus told them? Human beings are difficult and we can be stubborn in our ignorance. I am sure there are times I act just like those apostles. There are times I want what I want, even if there is no basis or promise it should be mine. In response to the apostles, Jesus promises the Holy Spirit. What a gift! He has given me the same gift, totally undeserved.

Father God, Thank you for your gift of the Holy Spirit. Help me to listen, learn and obey. You understand your people, and know what I need. Help me to utilize your gifts, and walk the path you have in mind for me. Amen
