A Daily Devotion for Monday, July 4

1 Chronicles 29:14

”But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this? Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your hand.”

This verse makes me think about how often we honor and take care of things that have been given to us by others, because of our love for the giver: when we dust, or move around, or repair things that belonged to our parents, for example. We honor and respect that which came to us from someone we love and respect. How much love and care should I show when I handle any thing which has come from God? I must be respectful of and thankful for all of God’s creation, and all of God’s gifts.

Holy One, you taught us to love and respect one another. May we love and respect all your many gifts. Amen

Hi Becky,

I really love the picture.

You can even see his little tongue. The lettuce must be good!

Kay has a real gift for capturing the images.

1 John 4:19 “We love because he first loved us. Everything comes from God and knowing how to love and be good stewards is a gift from God, made possible by the life and death of Jesus. I will give God the glory he deserves. I will always give God all the glory, honor and power for he created all that exists and was created.

Dearest Lord, you give us so much love and have taught us to share this love in…

1 Chronicles 29:14 What we read this morning was declared by King David during an inspiring time during his reign. He had donated a very large portion of his personal treasure toward the rebuilding of the temple in Jerusalem. Moved by his generosity, those in leadership under David did likewise. Generous giving can motivate others to do the same. When it is done in the name of God, it carries divine blessing as well.

Prayer - Generous God, impart in me, Lord, Your natural tendency to share Your gifts with others so that they too can feel the love You have for all humankind. Amen

1 Chronicles 29:14

“But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able thus to offer willingly? For all things come from you, and of your own have we given you.

God examines our hearts and attitudes, and whatever we do for him needs to be done willingly. He delights in those who give to him joyfully and cheerfully. I know many times it is difficult for me to give willingly but knowing all that he has done for me and all believers, giving to him fills me with great joy. Remembering that God is the source of all that you and I have, we must be good stewards of everything …
