A Daily Devotion for Monday, February 27

Philippians 4:6-7

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

True rest is found in relationship with God. We can physically do everything right, but still feel uneasy and "off" in our heart. It is so easy for me to charge ahead into my day, making my own decisions, dealing with feelings and reactions as they come up. I know it is far better for me to stop and pray, to remember the Holy Spirit, living in me. God will give me direction, peace and rest.

Lord, may your words this morning, from Paul's letter to the Philippians, guide me today. May I be reminded to come to you, to listen for your guidance, and to experience your true peace and rest. Amen

Philippians 4:6-7

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

This is just one of my many special scripture verses. Just reading it gives me such peace and promise. As long as I am worrying I am not trusting God. It is only by trusting by having faith and confidence in God that I am able to find peace . I know when I make the decision to pray and keep my relationship with God instead of worrying I can enjoy …

When two people are struggling with a life threatening disease, and they but their fears in Jesus’ hands through prayer, the peace that they find does transcend all understanding. We believe that Jesus understands our suffering because of the suffering that He endured.

Dear Lord, thank you for feeling our pain because of the pain that your son endured. Amen.

Philippians 4: 6-7

Praying to Jesus brings me peace. It may not happen right away but it does come and with peace I find rest. Rest from the worries and challenges of this life and putting all my trust in God. Prayer guards my heart from anxiety and fear and brings me comfort, joy and peace in Christ Jesus.

Dearest Lord, I have learned that praying to you gives me strength and peace. Praying brings me closer to you and in this way I find that I can leave all my problems at your feet. You in turn bring me peace and rest. I thank you for that gift. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

Philippians 4:6-7 The word that jumps out at me this morning from this very familiar passage is “transcends.” The word I originally learned and still read in the translation I use is “surpasses.” I think transcends may be a better word in that God’s peace is on such a different level than we alone can achieve or experience. “Surpasses” puts it in front but on the same plane. This speaks to the paradox of God being both immanent and transcendent. In the case of God’s peace, our difficulty In capturing and living in it leads me to believe it more than surpasses human understanding, but actually transcends it.

Prayer - Immanent and transcendent God, share with me Your peace, if even…

Philippians 4:6–7

With this verse we have been given the recipe for true rest.

One cup of needless worrying

2 cups of prayer

3 cups of Thankfulness

Let this rest in your heart and you will receive peace, which is God’s rest. But instead, we worry, forget to turn to him in prayer, and think we have a little to be thankful for. We have it all backwards.

Prayer: gracious God let this verse remind us to go to you first to receive your rest, instead of last, in desperation. Amen
