Mark 2: 27-28
Then he said to them, "The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. So the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath."
These verses, I believe, are to remind us that the Sabbath is meant to keep us connected to, and in right relationship with, God. It is not meant as a restriction or a limitation. If we are doing God's will or doing work for the glory of God, Jesus seems to say this is totally okay. If we "keep the Sabbath" we are sticking close to God all day long, and not letting other worldly activities get in our way.
Lord God, I am thankful for all your many gifts and all of the grace you have shown me through my life. Help me to grow closer and closer to you, remembering the Sabbath day, a day created especially for our relationship. Amen

Mark 2:27-28
And he said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. So the Son of Man is lord even of the Sabbath.”
And on the seventh day God ended His work and than He rested. Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it. The Sabbath also allows us to rest from our physical labors and worship the Lord. This day gives us a chance to slow down from our normal work and preoccupations and to refocus our hearts and minds. It is a day that we can recharge mentally and spiritually.
Lord, help me to make every Sabbath about you. Quiet my heart, give rest to my soul,…
Mark 2:27-28
The Sabbath was created to offer us time for rest and restoration. If we don’t observe it, we are the losers. Even God knew how important rest was as we read in Genesis. Why do we think we don’t need that time for rest as well? Our culture rewards busyness not rest. I often feel if I am not doing something, I am wasting precious time just sitting and reading. Why do we do that to ourselves.
Prayer: Gracious God, this week you are trying to teach us the importance of the Sabbath. I will try to put that into action. Amen
Mark 2: 27-28 The creation story has God resting on the seventh day, establishing the Sabbath. In the New Testament, Jesus makes clear this was yet another of God’s gifts to humankind. Sadly, we do not value this gift nearly enough. Sabbath is not revered and properly observed. Like the child who receives an enormous and very expensive toy for Christmas then spends the entire day playing with the box it came in, we substitute earthly pleasures and activities for peaceful downtime spent with God. Think of how the giver of that elaborate gift to the child playing with the box may feel. There may be a bit of pleasure in knowing the child is happy, but likewise sadness at knowing…
