A Daily Devotion for Monday, December 29

Psalm 139:1-10

You have searched me, LORD,

and you know me.

You know when I sit and when I rise;

you perceive my thoughts from afar.

You discern my going out and my lying down;

you are familiar with all my ways.

Before a word is on my tongue

you, LORD, know it completely.

You hem me in behind and before,

and you lay your hand upon me.

Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,

too lofty for me to attain.

Where can I go from your Spirit?

Where can I flee from your presence?

If I go up to the heavens, you are there;

if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.

If I rise on the wings of the dawn,

if I settle on the far side of the sea,

even there your hand will guide me,

your right hand will hold me fast.

This is so beautiful- we can’t be anywhere where God is not present. Sometimes it is hard to “find” him when we are full of all of the emotions of our lives. Since it is almost the beginning of a new year, I am wondering if I ought to commit (Godly new year’s resolution) to doing more listening in my prayer time. It is very hard for me, for some reason. There must be some guidance out there about how to improve our listening skills in prayer. Any thoughts?

Holy Lord, I know you are with me always, but sometimes my heart and head seem to be on a different frequency/wavelength than you. How can I do better? How can I hear you more easily and more clearly? Help me, I pray. Amen

Becky, transforming

Psalm 139

While these words are reassuring and meant to offer comfort that God sees and knows the "whole" me. Not just the good Christian church goer, but the flawed sinner that sometimes surfaces. Maybe even more than sometimes. I am not afraid of that because I know he loves me in spite of these flaws, and will help me conquer them if I but ask.

Prayer: Gracious God, thank you for knowing me so well and know that i am thankful for yor forgiveness. AMEM

Feeling  Lost

(Focus: those who feel distant from God.

Psalm 139:9-10

If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me

In this Psalm, David is talking about how amazing it is that God knows everything about him.  He knows David’s every thought, no matter where he is.  This same amazing fact is that God knows everything about us as well. God is present everywhere, all the time, forever. No matter where we are , we know God will be with us. God dwells everywhere.  There is no escaping God’s presence. We believe God will…

Psalm 139:1-10

Lately, I am feeling as if I have settled on the far side of the sea, wondering what God is doing, where God is and why God’s paths for so many is so difficult. If there is a godly campfire out there I should be searching for to find my way back to a place of confident fruitfulness I have yet to find it in this current chapter. But find it I must, because there are others who may be putting trust in me to help them find it as well.

Prayer - Lord God, Scripture insists You will never leave nor forsake us. The psalmist writes, “if I settle on the far side of the sea, even…

Psalm 139:1-10

My grandson recently came for a ‘sleepover”. He was in my shadow the entire time he was here, right next to me as I checked the garden, proudly holding some radishes he had just pulled, standing by me on a stool as I prepared meals to be the mixer, wanting me to be with him when he played with his cars and trucks in the playroom, and even tapping on the shower door to see when I would be done. He was by my side the entire two days except when he finally fell asleep during his bedtime story. When I laid my head down to sleep, I was truly exhausted. As I read the Psalm reading tod…
