A Daily Devotion for Monday, December 18

Hebrews 4:15

For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are--yet he did not sin.

So, everything Jesus taught us was from the perspective of not only God Most High, but from a man, quite ordinary in mortal terms. He would have had the same mortal temptations and weaknesses that we have. He was able to live a life without sin, from beginning to end. This is impossible for me, of course. Not only is it too late (!) but I know I am unable to keep completely free of sinning. I will continue to try, remembering the only human teacher able to show me by example.

Holy Lord, you sent Jesus to us as a man, so that the human race could know the Truth and have a model, example, and guide. Jesus was a man, but without sin. May I emulate Jesus in all that I do and say, thinking first, "What would Jesus do?"

Amen

Hebrews 4:15

For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.

Jesus totally understands our weakness. He understands because he took on being human to better understand who we are. He was tempted just as we are. While he never sinned he is not shocked when we sin and fail. He sent us the Holy Spirit to help us overcome our weaknesses. If I was the son of God i probably  would never had sinned either. As my faith and relationship with God continues to grow, I find I am certainly making progres…

Hebrews 4:15

Before Jesus even started his ministry, he was sent into the wilderness to be tempted/tested by Satan. Jesus did not succumb to Satan’s wishes and with this we see his strength. The author( s) of Hebrews was reminding the people about not sinning and the example Jesus set for us. Despite this, we still sin. We are weak. Hopefully, our regret teaches us the lesson of learning from our sins to not repeat them.

Prayer: Gracious God, You have given us all we need to know how to live as you would have us live, may we (I) get better at it. Amen

Hebrews 4:15 So simple on a printed page - “tempted in every way, just as we are--yet he did not sin,” the model set before us is challenged every single day. An all-knowing Jesus knew the consequences and emptiness of sin and thus turned His back when it came calling. As we grow in faith, we gradually learn the lessons of sin, and temptation becomes a less formidable foe. I still have a lot of growing to do, but my model remains unchanged.

Prayer - Jesus, sinless Savior, I pray for the aid and guidance of the Holy Spirit to live the life You intended for me. Help me to defeat temptation, break free from the power of sin and move…
