A Daily Devotion for Monday, December 14

Updated: Dec 15, 2020

John 1:14-18

Philippians 2:6-11

Philippians 2:6-7 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.

This morning I am wondering about the fully human and fully divine character of God in Jesus. God could so easily have come to earth with lots of fanfare and loud, spectacular music, miracles right and left, abundant crops everywhere, and no more tears, ever. But He came to earth humbly, as Jesus. What lessons would we have learned about how to live our lives, if God had come to the earth in a golden chariot? Jesus came to earth to show us how to be the best human beings we could be. He did not expect us to be little divine gods. Being a good human is enough- it is everything. God is God, and we are man, led by God. Holy Father, I am so thankful for your presence in my life, and for your gift of Jesus Christ. Help me, Lord, to look to you first when I need direction. Help me to see the right way to go, led by you. Amen

Becky, transforming

Philippians 2:6-11 verse 9-10

If anyone has any comfort, encouragement, or tenderness from the love of Christ, they should make his joy complete by acting in a way that would be pleasing to Jesus. This means that we should refrain from doing things out of our own selfish ambition. God gives us what we need. One of these gifts is his son, Jesus. He did not act as if He was better than anyone else. He was a servant to all whom He encountered. Because of this humility, God put Him in the highest place and gave Him the greatest name. One day, Paul said, every knee will bow to Him and proclaim that He is Lord. He came do…

John 1: 14-18, Philippians 2: 6-11

These readings emphasize Christ in our lives. Every day, as I go about my life, I would like to have Jesus on my mind. I want to have Jesus as the example on how to live my life. As I read the Bible more and more, I realize how much suffering Jesus did for us. How much humiliation he endured, just so he could understand the human element. I confess that Jesus is both my Lord and Savior.

Dearest Lord you are not a demanding God. You humbled yourself in human form in order to experience life as we know it. You loved us that much. Teach me to know that whenever life seems…

Philippians 2:6-11

7 rather, (Christ) made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant,

I think that God, knowing human nature, sent his son to be a lowly human type because if He had sent a god type we would not have believed that we could hope to be anything like Christ. We know a man that walked the earth like us and is now with God. If we try we can join him.

Lord please help me to remember your promise that I can join you in heaven. Help me to practice for that great event every day. Amen.

John 1:18 - “No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.”

No one in OT times, not even Moses ever saw God. For a little over 30 years, starting with Mary, there were countless people who could actually look into the face, touch the hands and embrace the Word made flesh. Even though Jesus was the revelation of God, making God known, many still did not see. His mission then is our mission now. If we are guided by the Holy Spirit, those with spiritual eyes to see will see Jesus in us and then in turn find God. There…
