A Daily Devotion for Friday, September 4

John 15:9-11

“As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.“

I love today’s devotion based on this short passage from the book of John! The writer is reminding me that Jesus’ joy is available to me no matter what is happening in my life. If I live my life seeking to keep Jesus’ commands, I will have have access to the joy of Jesus Christ. I will admit, sometimes it feels like the joy is hiding out somewhere. These are the challenging times. But if I stop and remember Jesus’ promise, I know the joy will in time declare itself.

Holy Lord, your joy is available to me, because you are available to me. May I never forget this, and continue to follow your commands in all that I say and do. Amen

John 16:9-11

This passage is beautiful and is filled with my favorite emotion JOY! The definition: “a deep, enduring emotion of great happiness, delight, and well-being that often comes from a sense of meaning, connection, or inner peace”. I am fully surrounded by joy. Although things are not always perfect in my life and there are highs and lows, I can say that I can always find joy and Jesus’s provides this joy.

Dear Jesus, thank You for loving me so much and filling my heart with joy. Amen.

Joy That Remains

(focus to Cultivate Joy In All Circumstances

Today’s Reading John 15:9-11

John 15:11

These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.

When faced with a choice I once made I never considered if my decision honored God.  Choosing not to follow His word allowed in, the sin that stole  my peace. I am learning to accept that God loves me deeply. Each  day as I remember to thank him for his love I am understanding that this  confidence quiets my daily anxieties and fear. The thing about joy is that you can’t force it. You can only create the conditions…

John 15:9-11

The word “joy” appears twice in the focus verse, but “lov[ed]” is seen five times in the broader three verse passage. The source of our joy is the love of God. When I have had bad experiences that challenge my sense of dignity or worth, Becky has always been there to support and reassure me. Her love, which brings restoration and joy is a mirror of the love of God that never fails. Scripture tells us in direct, plain language, God is love. In this is our joy.

Prayer- Loving God, thank You for the gift of Your love as manifested by the blessings You bestow and reflected by the love of our family and dear friends. Without…
