A Daily Devotion for Friday, September 26

1Peter 1:3-7

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire —may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.

Psalm 147:3

He heals the brokenhearted

and binds up their wounds.

Today’s verses speak to me in a special and intense way. Why do we suffer? What is the purpose? Our faith in Christ “holds our place” in God’s kingdom. And when we travel through painful times, we know that our future is set. When we can learn from our pain and find a way to be more loving and helpful to others, we have been blessed.

Holy Lord, thank you for healing our broken hearts, thank-you for your Son, and for your ever-present Holy Spirit to guide and comfort. You have saved me. I am eternally grateful. Amen

1 Peter 1:3-7

Everyone suffers at some point in their lives. I have had hard times and experienced grief and admit that I have questioned why and I have been angry with God for putting me in a particular situation but the same God that I am angry with is the God who brings me through my suffering and for that I am grateful. What came to mind in this message was discussion from my church life group a few weeks ago, we discussed Romans 5, particularly versus 3-5 ,

“…tribulation produces perseverance, and perseverance, character, and character, hope. Now hope does not disappoint because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit,…

1 Peter 1:3-7 and. Psalm 147:3

We hear about people who through enormous grief find a way to move forward and do things to honor their loved one lost. That is the true gift of faith. God has healed their broken hearts and led them forward. We all also know of people who live in their grief forever. How difficult life must be for them.

Prayer: Gracious God, whatever my circumstances, help me choose the path you have set for us all--one of healing. AMEN

Psalm 147:3

He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.

This verse is so comforting and one worth memorizing. Always remember God's power to restore emotional and spiritual well-being to those experiencing deep pain, disappointment, or sorrow. Often when difficulties happen or when problems rise up in life, we need to turn our hearts to the comforting words of Scripture. We need to grab a promise and hold on to that promise, knowing that we have a wonderful and faithful God Who has promised to be with us in all the twists and turns of life. He has committed to be enough in all situations. What He has done for…

1Peter 1:3-7 Atheists claim the existence of suffering proves there is no God. Such a being would not be all-powerful if unable to stop suffering. Such a being would not be all-loving if suffering is permitted. The problem of suffering has proven to be a stumbling block to faith going back to our beginnings. Many eminent writers and scholars have taken this dilemma on and put forth their interpretation of what suffering means in the context of the existence of an all-powerful and all loving God. Ultimately, it is the work of the Holy Spirit in a believer’s heart that convinces us that suffering is redeemed by God, if not in this life then in the life to come in the…
