A Daily Devotion for Friday, October 16

Colossians 1:24-29

verse 27: To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

This verse (and there are other similar verses) reminds me of the simple truth behind God’s word. From the time of Christ onward, God reminds and commissions his workers to spread the good news over all the world. God was no longer to be recognized and shared only by a small group of people. This is evidence to me of the true divinity of Christ. If it were up to man alone, we would be greedy about faith in Christ, and not so apt to spread the word. God changes us. God is for everyone, everywhere.

Lord above, you are my God, but you are Lord and Master over all the earth. I am your servant, and part of the family you have created. Lead me, and help me to see opportunities as they move across my day. I pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen

In this part of his letter, Paul speaks of the work he is doing for the church as a minister. Paul states that the suffering he is encountering are for the sake of Christ, doing it on behalf of other believers. In v. 29 he speaks of the toiling, and the struggling he is enduring , through his faith in Christ. He also does recognize that anything that he is able to accomplish is not through his own power and/or abilities – it is only because of the power given through Christ Jesus.

Let us pray together – All Powerful , Ever living God, we thank you for the servants that have come before us in this Your church –…

Colossians 1: 24-29

29 To this end I strenuously contend with all the energy Christ so powerfully works in me.

I now understand the tugging I feel in my heart is the work of the Holy Spirit. I need to become more confident in being able to serve Jesus here on earth. I know we all have something to offer, we just need to find it. Knowing that we are helping spread God’s words through our actions is part of serving him here on earth. I just need to listen to my heart, as the Holy Spirit talks to me, and gives me the knowledge in how to serve him.

Dearest Jesus, you served us here on earth and like…

Paul’s Labor for the Church

24 Now I rejoice in what I am suffering for you, and I fill up in my flesh what is still lacking in regard to Christ’s afflictions, for the sake of his body, which is the church.

Paul describes his rejoice in what he is suffering for brothers and sisters in Christ and fills up in his flesh what Christ’s affliction left for the sake of the church. I can’t imagine how the joy of suffering feels like. It seems very very hard but I hope and pray that I would like to experience that rejoice Paul experienced for the church of God and people of God and…
