The Lord is close to the broken-hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.
Sometimes I feel broken-hearted after a day at work. Some lives are so full of sadness, one cannot help but feel discouraged. But God is waiting for all of His people to turn to him, and ask to be saved. I can spend more time in my prayers asking God to heal and comfort others, and to help me to be a more effective servant.
Holy Lord, help me to find ways to lead others to you and your healing grace. The world is full of sadness, but also full of your grace and glory. Amen

Psalm 34:18
I just finished writing two sympathy cards to a family member and to a friend trying to offer comfort to each of them on the death of their son. The sons were not young children, but young adults. Each card contained a Bible verse and my own thoughts. My prayer for each of them is to know their God is always at their side to comfort them.
Prayer: Gracious God, Please hold Barbie and Peggy close to you as they need your assurance and to feel your presence at this time of great sorrow. Amen

The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.
This makes me think of the many homeless people in today’s broken world. How many times did I see a panhandler on the streets in Concord and made sure not to have eye contact with them. Having a hardened heart in making the decision to ignore them. Not all of them are druggies and lazy. Possibly many have has successful lives but suffered circumstances beyond their control such as grief, losing their jobs, and their homes leaving them destitute. I volunteered for the first time at the friendly kitchen last Sunday and had the opportunity to speak with each one…
Psalm 34:18
The sense that one is utterly alone, especially when faced with sorrow or fear must be devastating. How clearly and well will I remember God’s promise when facing sorrow and fear myself? The deeper faith grows the more likely one will feel God’s presence at those terrible times. We can trust God to be faithful and know that the Lord is close, especially at those times of deep need.
Prayer - Everpresent and faithful God, help me to know Your presence at all times and in all places. Grant me a deep sense of Your arms around me when trials come and and I risk being crushed in spirit. Amen

Psalm 34:18 I find so much comfort in reading the Psalm. This Psalm reminds me of one of my favorite songs our daughter often played on her flute “His Eye is on the Sparrow” God is always there even when you don’t think so!
Dear Lord,
Thank you for always being there even when I’m not sure you are, help me to recognize your unending love and help me to draw on that to help myself and others .
