1Chronicles 16:34-36
Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever. Cry out, ”Save us, O God our Savior; gather us and deliver us from the nations,
that we may give thanks to your holy name, that we may glory in your praise.”
Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Then all the people said “Amen” and “Praise the Lord.”
I love the last few words in verse 35: “that we may glory in your praise.” I am not sure I am reading this right, but it seems as if David is saying it is a privilege for us to be in a position to thank God for His blessings. Like Job, we need to recognize that merely knowing God is with us is enough to be thankful for. Praising and thanking God is in itself a gift to us. We “glory” in praising God.
Holy Lord, Thank you for being present in my life all the time, every moment. I am so grateful. Help me to live my life in a way that honors that gratitude and love for you. Amen

1 Chronicles 16:34-36 All week we have been reminded by our bible verses about giving thanks. Giving thanks every day. Giving thanks, even when it is difficult AND giving thanks when you do not feel thankful. I had a devotion written to post this morning and then my cell phone pinged and I got news from a distant relative in Texas. His sister and her husband, who both have serious physical problems, were diagnosed with Covid and had spent a short time in the hospital. When his sister helped her husband into bed last evening, he just turned over and stopped breathing. Shock, then help came, but to no avail. Now the family is, of course, very worried about their sister.…
1 Chronicles 16: 34-36
34 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.
Imagine a love that never dies. This love from God has lasted since the beginning of time. It endures from generation to generation. It is the same love that Adam and Eve felt. The difference is that it is a costly love. It was given to us at the cost of Jesus dyeing on the cross. We can give thanks to God for this love through thanks, prayer and worship and the way we live our lives.
Dearest Lord, thank you for loving me so very much. You gave up your Son for us so that we could have everlasting life. Thank…
May I add something I encountered from Henri Nouwen this morning?
“The word patience comes from the Latin verb patior, which means ‘to suffer.’ Waiting patiently is suffering through the present moment, tasting it to the full, and letting the seeds that are sown in the ground on which we stand grow into strong plants. Waiting patiently always means paying attention to what is happening right before our eyes and seeing there the first rays of God’s glorious coming.”
Two terms jumped from today’s reading in light of yesterday’s side topic of the occasional sense of the absence of God. Verse 34 ends with “forever,” and verse 36 ands with “everlasting to everlasting.” We can give thanks and praise for all things at all times because Scripture tells us God is with us in all things at all times. My outlook on our current situation is at times bleak and I have a hard time trying to discern God’s lessons for us in all this, but lessons there are and they will be made known in God’s time. For now I must trust that God’s steadfast love endures forever.

Giving thanks to the LORD is a great way to enjoy our happiness as a child of God. When I give thanks to someone, I feel a grateful heart such as when I send an email thanking someone for what he or she has done for me, church, and God. When I express…
