A Daily Devotion for Friday, Nov. 11

2 Corinthians 1:19-20

For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us- by me and Silas and Timothy- was not "Yes" and "No," but in him it has always been "Yes." For no matter how many promises God has made, they are "Yes" in Christ. And so through him the "Amen" is spoken by us to the glory of God.

It is not super-clear to me what is being conveyed here. Paul had changed his travel plans, and was making it clear that his message did not somehow become ambiguous or less certain. God is faithful, and keeps His promises. When he says "yes" he means it. When He sent Jesus to walk among us, it was part of a promise already conceived by God. God is the same, yesterday, today and tomorrow, and His promises are here for me to hold onto. Nothing that happens here on earth should change my mind about God's faithfulness.

Lord God, your promises are the certainty we need in our world today. May I live with that certainty and peace. Amen

2 Corinthians 1:19-20

Paul used himself as a role model, showing how the comfort and grace of God, brought him amazing hope and strength, in the midst of his severe suffering and persecution , he also assured his listeners that the Lord would provide the same comfort and strength for each one of them.Paul’s main purpose was not to talk about his own problems but to praise the name of the Lord and proclaim the goodness of God. It was Jesus, who provided Paul with His sufficient strength and this was the heart of his message to these believers. Jesus was steadfast, sure, unchanging and reliable. God's promises are altogether true and His Word stands fast…

I was thinking about being betrayed by a broken promise and how let down I felt. Thinking that I could trust this friend, only to find that they shared my secret. God’s promises are never broken. God’s boundless love never fails me in what Jesus did for us. All God’s promises were fulfilled with the birth and…

2 Corinthians 1:19-20

”. . . For no matter how many promises God has made, they are ‘Yes’ in Christ. . .”

jesus is the embodiment of all of God’s promises. Jesus said He did not come to abolish the law, but to fulfill it. In Him is the forgiveness of sins, restoration of right relationship with our Creator, and guidance to live a transformed life and ultimately have eternal life. I join all who proclaim His glory with my “Amen.”

Prayer - Generous God, the gift of Jesus, fulfillment of Your promises, sustains us with light in an ever-darkening world. Thank You for the faith that lifts me from the mire into eternal life. Amen
