Psalm 16:7-11
I will praise the LORD, who counsels me;
even at night my heart instructs me.
I keep my eyes always on the LORD.
With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.
Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices;
my body also will rest secure,
because you will not abandon me to the realm of the dead,
nor will you let your faithful one see decay.
You make known to me the path of life;
you will fill me with joy in your presence,
with eternal pleasures at your right hand.
The writer of today’s devotion in the Upper Room felt abandoned by God when she and her husband were unable to conceive. She describes losing her desire to pray or to seek God. But deep inside, she still felt a longing for Him, and through writing her thoughts, she found her way back to God. Although she describes feeling abandoned by God, she admits she held a deep longing inside to be once again in communion with Him. I believe that deep longing was the Holy Spirit, which never leaves us no matter how we feel. The Holy Spirit continues to nudge us, no matter what our earthly life brings to us. As the words of a beautiful song remind us, “you’ll never walk alone.” This is such a priceless gift.
Holy Lord, I am so thankful for all you have given to your creation. Words seem small and insufficient. You are always with me, lighting my path. May I keep my eyes open. Your Holy Spirit is my constant companion. Amen

The Upper Room writer reminds me of my daughter and son-in-law and their journey when they were trying to conceive a child. This was a difficult time for them, but also a time of where they experienced a spiritual “growth spurt”. They did not lose faith, their faith became stronger and both of them truly put the outcome of their situation in God‘s hands, and were truly at peace with whatever was to be. Fortunately, after a very long wait, they were blessed with a beautiful baby boy. Their faith, trust and patience was rewarded and have they have remained very close to God. Psalm 16:7-11 Near to God
Journaling has been recognized as a very effectiver practice for many reasons. Just the act of writing can can be a release of emotions, anxiety, and depression. Often through journaling you discover things about yourself. Today's author found journaling brought her closer to a God she had become distant from. I have never had succes with journaling. I start but do not sustain the effort. Being part of our Transformer group for a fe years now is the best I've ever done. While not actually journaling, I now have 3 or 4 four notebooks of thoughts about God's word. I consider that a success.

Psalm 16:11
You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

Psalm 16:7-11
Part of my morning prayer time is given to intercessory prayer for family, friends and colleagues. I frequently find myself praying that the persons for whom I am praying feel the presence of God. For some of these people that would be a great comfort. For others, it may be uncomfortable, maybe frightening, but hopefully, convicting. In either case, there is a blessing. If the Holy Spirit would open even one heart to faith and salvation over many years of prayer, it would be prayer that yielded fruit.
