A Daily Devotion for Friday, May 19

Matthew 28:19-20

"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

When I read these verses today, I am reminded of the comfort and fellowship we all experience with our church families. Jesus asks us to go out and spread the good news. When we follow Jesus, we know we have been promised eternal life with him. And He never leaves us. But we also have the comfort and fellowship of all those who follow Christ alongside us. When we have a church family, we are not alone in this world. We have friends and support. And of course, we have Jesus!

Father God, I thank you for my church family. Strengthen us so that we may bring more of your creation to know you. We need never feel lonely for too long. Amen

The Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20) is the commandment that Jesus gave (to his disciples) to go to all nations and teach them every thing that Jesus has commanded. Jesus has all authority in heaven and earth. Jesus encourages the disciples even though they will face many hardships he will be with them always to the end of the age. These words were not just given…

Matthew 28:19-20 Jesus’ Great Commission includes an astonishing promise that is often overlooked. “And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." Trying to live out our call as Christians to make disciples in an environment wherein this is deemed to be socially unacceptable, arrogant and intolerant can make one feel spiritually lonely. Knowing Jesus remains with us as the Holy Spirit, guiding us and giving us the right tools to share God’s love in ways that penetrate even the cold heart of disbelief in our culture mitigates that loneliness and gives us the confidence to proclaim the risen Lord.

Prayer - Jesus, Savior and Companion, please hear my prayerful thanks for Your presence that smooths…
