Genesis 12:1-2
The LORD had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.
“I will make you into a great nation,
and I will bless you;
I will make your name great,
and you will be a blessing.“
Today’s reading brings me back to the reading yesterday from 1 Samuel. God does not ordinarily transform us into a different person overnight. He prepares us over time. When I was a much younger adult I was very uncomfortable around elderly people. I worked a “moonlighting” job reviewing and adjusting meds in a nursing home, but this was just work to me. It wasn’t until I visited my parents in their new home, an assisted living facility, that God spoke to me about what I might do. My parents had each other, but most of those living in the facility were single and alone. The place was in a tiny town, far into the upper peninsula of Michigan. I couldn’t stop thinking about how lonely it must be for those who lived there. How many visitors would make the trip? Anyway, that was one piece of God’s help, preparing me for future contact with nursing home residents. Each step along the way has come from God, before and after. He promises to show us the way.
Holy Lord, I thank you for showing me my way, at least this far, and giving me the tools to shine a bit of light, with music. I am thankful. Amen

Genesis 12:1-2.
Many years ago I began trying to remove the word "lucky" from my vocabulary. When I was much younger, I often thought what a lucky girl I was. As my faith grew, I realized there was no luck involved. It was all a part of God's blessing to me. I now often say how blessed I am to have so much in my life. I also realize that I need to be a blessing to others as God instructed Abram. How often do we tell others what a blessing they are?
Prayer: Gracious God, You have abundantly blessed me. May I do the same for others. AMEM

Genesis 12:1-2
Now the Lord said to Abram, Go from your country and your kindred and your father's house to the land that I will show you. And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing.
We are not Abraham, He didn’t have royal experience, political savvy, or commanding stature. What he had was something better- a heart willing to follow God— Abram obeys this command, demonstrating his faith in God's guidance and promises, even though he doesn't know where he's going or what the future holds. Like Abraham there is nothing special about me that God would choose. …

Today’s Upper Room reflection reminded me of Anthony. He, too, is a talented musician and while he went through a five-month ordeal looking for employment, he ended up, by God’s providence, in a professional position that is weaved seamlessly into his musical avocation. So it is with each of us. Our name may not be made great, but at some level, everyone has the potential to be blessed if we open our hearts and minds to God. More importantly, on being blessed, we are to be a blessing to others.
Prayer - Thank You, Lord for the amazing blessing bestowed on my son. Your blessings are made new every morning. Great is thy faithfulness. Amen
