A Daily Devotion for Friday, Jan 30

1Peter 5:6-7

Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

Deuteronomy 31:8

The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”

These are two excellent reminders from scripture for me, right now and today. And they are from two different voices than we have been hearing from lately: Peter and Moses. Both had personal 1:1 encounters with God over significant stretches of time. They knew what they were talking about, because they had first hand knowledge! This is not to say that strong faith needs to have first-hand knowledge, but I appreciate the reassurance once in a while. When we are going through troubles, we are not alone.

Holy Lord, I thank you for your love for me and for the care you take to listen and grant me peace. I couldn’t do this life without you Lord, and would not ever choose to. Amen

1 Peter 5:6-7 / Deuteronomy 31:8

We do not have to carry our burdens alone. Sometimes they are just too heavy. Many times over the course of my life I have, stubbornly, declined the offer of help from others… And sometimes came to regret it. Keeping that in mind, I must always realize it is more than OK to pray “God I need your help”. He never forgets me, he always hears me, and I can tell him about anything that burdens me. Quite simply, to God, I matter

Heavenly Father, I humbly thank you for always being there for me, for being my strength and for lifting my burdens. Amen

There are so many reminders in our Bibles that God is close; that He cares. I'm sure in terrible times, this is difficult, but we must try to understand what Moses and Peter were reminding us about. Each of them experienced times when they called on God's help because they knew he was near, he was listening, and he cared for them.

Prayer: Gracious God, these passages remind us to not forget how near you are when we call. AMEM

GOD CARES

{Focus:those feeling hopeless and overwhelmed

Today’s reading  1 Peter 5:6-7

Deuteronomy 31:8

It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.”

Deuteronomy 31:8 and 1 Peter 5:6-7 together teach us that Christians can live without fear or anxiety in today’s chaotic world by relying on God’s constant presence to guide us  and by humbly surrendering our  worries to Him, knowing He cares for us personally. These verses encourage active faith over fear. They encourage believers to stop carrying the burden of the future alone and to trust that God is both managing and caring for us personally,…

1Peter 5:6-7/Deuteronomy 31:8

From Old Testament times through New Testament times and up to today and into the future, God’s message is clear. As our creator, the very source of our breath and life, God cares for us and will be with us through all our trials. God is not a genie who will simply make trouble vanish, but a living presence, companion and guide through the trials. This lesson is taught countless times in Scripture and we have reflected on its many references countless times with the Transformers. May we all find encouragement and strength through these exercises when our trials come.

Prayer - Almighty God, Creator and Sustainer, thank You for Your loving and protective presence in good…
