A Daily Devotion for Friday, February 3

Ephesians 6:10-12

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

We need God and his protective "armor" to keep us safe from evil. But we aren't just born with the armor, or given it when we become adults. I believe we earn, or develop the armor over time, with the help of the Holy Spirit. We need to learn to recognize evil, and to identify it. And we need to practice turning away from evil. If we are fortunate, our parents and family members help us to recognize evil. Sometimes it is by the grace of God that we learn our lesson.

Holy Father, you show us the way, the path to you. Help us not stray away, and help us utilize the armor you provide. Amen

Ephesians 6:10-12

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.

Paul clearly identifies that our energy is the devil, an evil spiritual being not anyone with flesh and blood. We are equipped with the Holy Spirit within, which is the word of God. We are told to cover everything in prayer with continued faith. Prayers offered i…

Ephesians 6:10–12

These verses are our reminder that God has given us all we need to conquer the evil that surrounds us. His words and Jesus deeds and what we need to navigate through our world. However, it takes daily study of our Bible and much prayer for the strength to overcome evil.

Prayer: gracious God, may your teaching be my armor when confronting evil. Amen

God gives me the full armor I will need in our fight against evil. If I pray in the Spirit at all times, the channels between me and God are always open. I must keep the communication with Jesus open to find direction and encouragement in this life on earth. I will continue to pray…

Ephesians 6:10-12

Verse 12 was specifically brought up in one of my three interviews yesterday and in retrospect (what a surprise) I see a better answer that could have been given. Armor is a great analogy for the equipping we get from the Holy Spirit as we fight each day’s battle against evil. Even in this 21st century, those who go to war strap on armor as an additional layer of protection. While we are graced with free will when faced with evil, the armor Paul delineates in verses 14-17; truth, righteousness, readiness to proclaim the gospel, faith, salvation and the Holy Spirit, give us a fighting chance in our battle.

Prayer - Holy God, mighty in battle, arm me…
