A Daily Devotion for Friday, December 11

Isaiah 9:2-7

verse 2: The people in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned.

This entire passage is so lovely and so comforting. Isaiah was able to let Israel know about Jesus. Who heard him and understood and was comforted? We have the benefit of knowing the truth behind these words. I am filled with thankfulness today. God is moving me, and I am listening for Him.

Lord, during this season of Advent, when the world is under the shadow of a pandemic, your light shines through everything. Please, God, soften hearts and open eyes that have not noticed your presence, or have tried to ignore it. Show me my part, help me to see. Amen

Isaiah 9: 2-7 Isaiah tells of this vision where the people of God are free, where there is no more darkness, where there is celebration and great joy. Isaiah tells of this hope where the people of God live in peace and wholeness. He tells of this act of love based on the promises of God. “For a child has been born for us, a son given to us...and he is named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of peace. God will lift up a Savior, and this Savior will bring peace not only to Israel but to all of God’s creation.. Because that is the way God works and shows God’s love for us, through gifts, plans, ev…

Isaiah 9: 2-7

6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Isaiah is predicting the birth of Jesus. Prince of Peace, this is who Jesus is to me. It is through my faith in Jesus that I know the peace of having him to turn to in my life. If I am obedient to his laws and command, I will know the blessedness of that peace that only the Lord can give. I can show my gratitude to him by thanking him every day for all he has given to me.

Dearest…

20201211 Friday, Daily Devotion - Isaiah 9:2-7 (NIV)

6 For to us a child is born,

to us a son is given,

and the government will be on his shoulders.

And he will be called

Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,

Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Jesus came into my life as various roles but one of the best roles in my life is Wonderful Counselor. Whenever I consult with Him through His Word in Spirit, He says something in my heart. This is the reason I am who I am. But sometimes when I am filled with my human values, greed, or fear, It is truly hard to consult with Him because I can’t ask anything because of my shameful mind.…

Isaiah 9:6 - “For a child has been born for us, a son given to us; authority rests upon his shoulders; and he is named

Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

The annual community choir performance of Handel’s Messiah would have been last weekend. I enjoyed participating last year with our own Dave McDonald, Tim Britain, Candy Garvin and a host of others. I even reconnected with Kyle Landt, a pediatrician I trained with in Cincinnati forty years ago. These words are sung in one of the more recognized pieces in the work and whenever I read them I always hear that melody. There is no better evidence that the Holy Spirit acts through people than this…
