2 Corinthians 1:3-4
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.
I loved today’s devotion in the Upper Room. The writer was grieving the approaching death of her father, and called out in prayer to God. She then felt God’s warmth and peace surround her, and she knew she could go on to face what was happening. When this happens to us, it is all we need, and it gives us the power and the strength to be that comfort to others. God has helped me this way many, many times. I must remember always to look for ways to share that comfort with others. God is teaching me to be more like Jesus. It is not just for me- I am to pass this peace on whenever I have an opportunity.
Holy Lord, you teach me every day. Help me to see and recognize chances to do my part. Amen

2 Corinthians 1:3-7
I have learned to not be afraid of being with the dying regardless of who they are. Most times just being with someone and holding their hand with a smile is enough. Because I love music, I often softly sing or hum (depending on where I am) simple hymns. Most of the time I sing "Surely the Presence..." and "On eagles Wings." If the person asks I may do others that bring them comfort. I will admit I find comfort in offering comfort.
Prayer: Gracious God, Thank you for the gifts you have given me and the lessons I've learned using those gifts. AMEN

Comfort and Help
(Focus: someone who needs my presence
2 Corinthians 1:3-4
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
Time and time again, being comforted by God is one of the most peaceful experiences I have even known. It also gives me strength to begin again. God is the source of every comfort and encouragement. No one is as good as he is at comforting when we are hurting or grieving.…
2 Corinthians 1:3-4 I think we have a tendency to make comforting others in their time of sorrow more complicated than it needs to be. We don’t need a bunch of fancy words or extensive Biblical knowledge with a host of verses to quote. On the contrary, simply sitting with them in silence is often enough to bring or at least open the door to God’s comfort. There are times, certainly, when specific actions like helping to salvage and clean up after a fire or storm, providing meals in a chaotic situations, watching the kids while the parents regroup from a problem or any other help can bring comfort. But few things are more powerful than knowing you have a friend…
2 Corinthians 1:3-4
The Upper Room writing today sent my memories back to when my own father lay dying. I seemingly did not recover from my grief as quickly as the writer, but when I did, I was comforted that his broken body was healed, and he was in heaven with Jesus. The gift that this grieving process left me with was the ability to not shy away from people with loved ones with terminal illness, or who were dying or in hospice care. It gave me the strength to not be timid about visiting and to do what I could to comfort them… sometimes only to hold a hand in silence. I know God was with me and with…
