A Daily Devotion for December 18, Friday

Luke 14:11 “For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”

Mark 10:43 “Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must become your servant.”

Matthew 20:16 “So the last will be first, and the first will be last.“

The big message here seems clear. God sees our acts of servanthood as greatness. This is how to please God. Putting others before myself can happen many times each day, but it doesn’t always come naturally to me. I can work to be better at this. I am trying, and I think I have made progress, but it is so easy to be selfish. I guess God knows this, and this is why we are so often reminded in scripture to put others first.

Holy Father, thank you for your reminders to be selfless and generous. I ask you to guide me and give me nudges in the right direction when I do not see the way. I love you, Lord. Amen
