Philippians 2:3-5,8
1Peter 5:5-6
Philippians 2:4
Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.
This piece of teaching jumps out at me this morning because it is something I can easily do, and should do. When I take care of something for myself, I can add in something for someone else. Some of these things we do automatically, like replacing the TP roll when it is empty and putting it into the holder, not on top of it. But many times I know I leave things for others to take care of, or I don’t think of what others may need. Maybe when I run into the store for something quickly, I can take the time to pay a heartfelt compliment to a fellow shopper. Or I can tip the Dunkin’ Donuts worker and thank him for his great attitude. I can do more, do better.
Father God, thank you for reminding me there are opportunities everywhere to serve others. Advent is the perfect time and Jesus is the perfect teacher. Amen

Beautiful reminders of what we can do everyday. In thinking about what a hard year this has been for the hospitality business we always leave a generous tip, more than usual, to try and help someone else who has been struggling due to lost wages. I feel if we can afford to go out to eat we can afford to give extra.
Philippians 2:3-5,8 1 Peter 5:5-6 Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.
If I consider you above me and you consider me above you, then a marvelous thing happens: we have a community where everyone is looked up to, and no one is looked down on. (now wouldn’t this be a wonderful world) So I have to ask myself is what I do not done out of love for others, but out of my own desires for myself. When I consider others above me, I will naturally have a concern for their needs and welfare: Here…

5 In the same way, you who are younger, submit yourselves to your elders. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another because “God opposes the proud
but shows favor to the humble.”
Humble:
I thought about what I have to do inside of me. To be humble. What I found is to put aside my benefits at the first step by giving up my benefits, which can be described as a sacrifice. I wonder if a humble life can be done without sacrificing myself. We might do something for others without sacrificing any portion of mine, which can be called ‘donation.’ However, personally, it seems hard to say…
Philippians 2:3-5. Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. ATTITUDE. Jesus had the attitude of a servant. That is often not how we think of him as we witness in our readings, his healings and many miracles and teaching. Yet, if we read closely, we can hear the message of servant hood. That attitude of servant hood held true and one of his last lessons to the disciples in the Upper Room before his crucifixion was just that. In John 13 we read of Jesus w…

Philippians 2: 5 in your relationships with one another have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:
I would love to have the same mindset as Jesus. This will be a goal for me to accomplish. Clearly there is a need for the “mind of Christ”. To be of service to others as Christ served. To reflect on the birth and death of Jesus and the thought process that enabled Jesus to be born human and die on the cross. What can I do to display that “mindset” myself?
Dearest Lord give me the mindset to be like you. Help me to do better when I feel that need for recognition from others.…
