During these difficult days, Bishop Devadhar and members of the Extended Cabinet are sharing a daily prayer based on the Revised Common Lectionary for the week.
You are welcome to use these in worship or in your own devotions.
Acts 3:12-19
When Peter saw [the people’s astonishment], he addressed the people, "You Israelites, why do you wonder at this, or why do you stare at us, as though by our own power or piety we had made him walk?
“What are YOU looking at?”
God, I want to say to them.
“What hopes are you pinning on me
when God has already been at work?”
I did not do this thing that made them happy
or not.
You did.
You who have lifted up your servant, Jesus
when those who claim to follow you
threw him down.
You who returns the Author of life to us.
You who saw this beggar in the temple
asked us to see him too,
and gave him health.
Here we are,
trying to learn which way to turn our heads,
trying to decide which way to turn our lives.
Shall we hold our sins close to our chest,
watching for the next human wonder worker?
Or will we follow Peter’s gaze
to the reality of Jesus’ sacrifice
and receive your gift already beating in our hearts?
I wonder.
AMEN
