A daily prayer from the New England Conference

The clergy and laity of the New England Conference are sharing a daily prayer based on the Revised Common Lectionary for the week. You are welcome to use these in worship or in your own devotions.

Today's Prayer

If It Had Not Been for the Lord #2053 The Faith We Sing If It Had Not Been for the Lord - YouTube – Lynda Randle & Andrae Crouch

If it had not been for the Lord by my side, tell me where would I be, where would I be. If it had not been for the Lord by my side, tell me where would I be, where would I be.

He kept my enemies away; he let the sun shine through a cloudy day. He rocked me in the cradle of his arm when he knew I had been battered and scorned, so if it…

…had not been for the Lord by my side, tell me where would I be, where would I be. If it had not been for the Lord by my side, tell me where would I be, where would I be.

He never left me all alone; he gave the peace and joy I’d never known. He answered when I knelt to really pray, and in vict’ry the Lord brought me his way, so if it…

…had not been for the Lord by my side, tell me where would I be, where would I be. If it had not been for the Lord by my side, tell me where would I be, where would I be.

Lord, there are days when I rise from bed already exhausted by the responsibilities before me, the tasks I have yet to complete, and the sorrow and suffering that is so evident among those whom we both love. These days there are times I hardly recognize the world around me and I wonder, how much more can I take, how much longer can this go on. Today, I remember your servants Esther and Mordecai, who faced the trials of their day claiming you in faith as their source of strength and took action to confront injustice and oppression. Today, I remember to pray in suffering and to sing songs of praise in cheer. Today, I choose you once more, Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer of ALL life! On this day, most loving God, I pray for strength and courage to be the one to bear a cup of cool water in your name to another who is likewise parched, to be one who consoles, loves, understands, and gives, to be the one who is an instrument of your peace as our brother Francis has challenged. And throughout this day may these words be constantly in my heart and on my lips: If it had not been for the Lord by my side, tell me where would I be, where would I be… It is in Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
