A daily prayer from the New England Conference

Today's Prayer

Scriptural Passage: John 10:22-30 O God, though we are slow to learn, distracted by noise, lured by false power, led down dead ends, and wander far from your love in Jesus, you come looking for us. Like a shepherd, Jesus tends his flock; he knows his sheep. They hear his voice, and they follow him. How easily we get turned around. We think we will believe and then we will follow, but Jesus says, we do not believe because we do not belong. We will believe him only when we join him We will know his voice because we follow him. We will believe, not if we belong, but because we belong to him. And so we thank you that we are the sheep of his pasture. Today we pray especially for the mother shepherds who watch over the children — the children who are abused, the ones who are neglected, the ones who are orphaned, the ones who are ignored. We pray for the mothers who like shepherds tend to the children — the children who have wandered off, the children who are casualties of war, the children who are victims of Inequality, hunger, and greed. We pray for the mothers — who like sheep need your care, who themselves carry scars in their bodies and wounds in their hearts. Show us how to go with you. to search with you, to care for the lost ones, to tend your sheep. We offer our prayer in the name of Christ Jesus who is one with you and the Holy Spirit, living among us and within us. Amen.
