A daily prayer from the New England Conference

Members of the New England Conference Extended Cabinet are sharing a daily prayer based on the Revised Common Lectionary for the week.

You are welcome to use these in worship or in your own devotions.

Today's Prayer

Lord of life and love, we are so close to Bethlehem we can hear the sheep on the outskirts of the city and the noise of all who have come for the census. We too are busy with last minute preparations as Christmas draws so close. We don’t want to approach our celebration as a list of chores, but as those who have been invited to celebrate a birth. You have truly chosen us to witness to the birth again in our lives. We long to put on the compassion, kindness, humility, meekness and patience that the child brings into our world and lives. Help us to bear with one another especially those we need to forgive and those who need to forgive us. We long to burst forth in Christmas carols at full volume, but the pandemic holds us back. May the spirit of those carols burst forth in our lives that your peace may rule in our hearts. May the word of love and grace be born in our lives again teaching and admonishing us in the wisdom of your love. This Christmas may everything we do be done in the name of the one who is born to bring us life. We bring our prayers and thanks in the babe’s name. Amen.
