Today's Prayer
Jesus replied, "The most important one is Isreal listen! Our God is the one Lord, and you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your being, with all your mind, and with all you strength. The second is this, You will love your neighbor as yourself. No other commandment is greater than these." — Mark 12: 29-31 Lord, your command is so simple to understand and yet so hard to do. Am I capable of loving you with all of my being? Is it possible for me to love others as I love myself? I fear that I am easily distracted by so many things in life. It is hard to remind myself to focus completely on you. I am saddened to admit that I am so consumed with my own needs and desires that I sometimes forget to care for my neighbors. You know, Lord, that I find it difficult to love those who do not look or think like I do. Lord, without you, I would give up on myself, with all my failings and weaknesses. But because you live within me, I know that there is hope. I know that I do have times when I am overcome with my love for you. I know that there are moments when I act with love and generosity toward your other children, even those I may not like or understand. Thank you Lord for showering me with your expansive, life giving love. Thank you for filing my spirit with yourself. How can I not reflect your glory? Amen. By Rev. Dr. Jacquelyn Brannen, Katahdin District Superintendent
