verses 9-10: But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation. His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.
These are of course Peter’s words, but spoken from his experience and relationship with Jesus. Jesus told the disciples to go out into the world, and told Paul to go out to the Gentiles. We are now among the chosen! Everyone is included! No longer were there separate people who were ”other”. If you heard about Jesus, you knew Him, and could follow Him.
This message is a special one to me, one I have learned as an adult. I spent much of my life wondering if I was one of the “chosen.” I followed Jesus, and knew God’s love and protection, but always had a recurring nagging question about who God intended to be His followers. It was just my own ignorance, because God clearly was in my life, helping me, giving me peace when I needed it and asked, showering me over and over with His grace. Now I especially love passages such as today’s, which are quite concrete. Thank you, Lord!
Heavenly Father, I am full of thanks this morning for your written Word. It is wonderful and comforting to have your Word, and to be able to continue to learn from it. I ask you to continue to speak to me through scripture. Open my heart, Lord. Of course we are all included by our own Creator! Thank you, Amen.
