Members and Friends of the Contoocook United Methodist Church,
Over the past several hours, your church leadership and others, have made the very difficult decision to cancel church services tomorrow morning, Sunday, March 15th. This is uncharacteristic for our church and for other United Methodist churches in New Hampshire. Blizzards have not kept us from worship. However, this is an uncharacteristic and challenging time.
Here is what tipped the balance: The seventh known case of coronavirus (COVID-19) in NH is a woman, who works at the DMV in Manchester. This is a rather centrally located environment, so we have to be careful. While we may feel that we have a small chance of contracting the disease, we can contribute to “flattening the curve” by helping to prevent further exposure to some of our most vulnerable populations.
There is a fine line between carrying on with life as usual and following suggested recommendations. We do not know the length or breadth of this health crisis and there are not only health implications, but financial implications for our small church. I ask that if you are able to send your weekly pledge by mail please do so. The address of the church is CUMC, PO Box 356, Contoocook, NH 03229.
Please share this message with others in our church family. It would be a good opportunity to reach out to one another with a telephone call in this time of angst and confusion. As we move forward, the church leadership will be working on a more sustainable longterm plan. We will communicate this through the weekly email and we will likely need to establish a telephone tree for those who do not have internet services.
Patience and prayer will be required for quite some time. We are called to pray for others, as there are so many who need our prayers. Please take a moment or two tomorrow morning to pray on your own. God knows and hears our prays for one another, our country and the world.
Blessings and Peace,
Jackie Stock and your Church Council
