John 20:11
Now Mary stood outside the tomb crying.
Soon, she will turn and then hear Jesus say her name. She will see Jesus, alive and risen to his feet. We do not experience anything like Mary’s surprise on Easter morning, because we already know what happens. But the joy of Easter morning should never be forgotten. Surely we are all capable of digging deep to find and experience the joy of knowing our Savior has risen! He is risen!
Holy Lord, help me to see and hear this story with new eyes and ears. Help me never grow tired of hearing and experiencing this miracle. I owe all I am to you. Amen

John 20:11
How blessed Mary was to be at the tomb before anyone else. Of course, at first she was so sad to see the empty tomb and thought the grave has been robbed. Then he called her name and she knew immediately it was Jesus. Her message to the others wasn't that his body was gone, but that he was alive. Of course, the men had to go see for themselves as would I. What an amazing morning! How wonderful that we get to relive it each year at our Easter morning services.
Prayer: Gracious God, Mary heard him call her name and she knew. May I always believe in your Son's resurrection. AMEM
John 20:11
How confused Mary must have been, the swing of emotions in mere moments from the lowest to the highest. She loved Christ so very dearly and this joy, of course, is profound! Hallelujah!!
Dear God, thank you for the joy of a risen Christ! Amen

John 20:11
But Mary stood weeping outside the tomb, and as she wept she stooped to look into the tomb.
What must it have been like for Mary to witness an empty grave. All she could do was weep. Through her eyes, we learn more about who Jesus was to Mary. He found her in her darkest place and healed her of seven demons. After her healing she became very important in his ministry. She was one of His friends and a faithful follower. Mary supported Jesus’ ministry with all she had to give. To what she thought was the bitter end, she gave her life to follow Him and care for…
John 20:11
Lucado’s theme of hearing God’s voice in a surprising way is what grabs my attention. Mary must have felt the nightmare of Friday was continuing with the theft of Jesus’ body by His enemies, Roman authorities or criminal grave robbers for nefarious purposes. Her heartbreak must have been overwhelming. Tears were inevitable. Then the surprise. Lucado declares God “loves to surprise us.” I hope that my spiritual senses never become so dull as to fail to hear that still, small and surprising voice that is God calling me to service.
Prayer - Jesus, the surprise You gave Mary is the reality we live today. You are risen and walk with us through the Holy Spirit. Grant us the…
