John 19:30
When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
What an incredible relief for Jesus, to know this painful ordeal is over. Of course, Jesus and His work through us is never over, but this excruciating physical part of Jesus’ life need never happen again. The anguish and separation from his Father, while bearing the burden of a world of sins, will not happen again. It is over. Jesus is finally able to return home.
Holy Lord, Jesus knew he was returning to you, and that made all things tolerable to him in his mortal body. I pray today that I remember this when my time to join you approaches. Amen

John 19:30
I remember a short devotion I wrote a few yers ago about these words. Although, it is not scholarly, I have always felt like with those words we were at a new beginning. Yes, all the prophecies had come to fruition and Jesus had paid for our sins--but now what? It was the beginning of a new "church' that has lasted thousands of years. I just wish we were more united as churches and not so divided about everything. If we don't, we may not last another thousand years.
Prayer: Gracious God, Help us today to seek understanding and unity among our churches. AMEN
John 19:30
“It is finished”, all is finished, His work on earth, His fulfillment of the prophesy, the debt for our sins…and God’s open arms await. Despite the horrific suffering there is beauty and peace to behold in this last moment. His finish is our beginning.
Heavenly Father, let me never forget Jesus’s suffering and the debt he paid for me. Help me to keep Him the center of my life and live my remaining days glorifying Him. Amen
John 19:30
Three simple words signal the fate of humankind has been forever altered. A fork was put in the road of our lives that makes clear the eternal choice we must make. That three word sentence uttered by the Savior of the world about the saving of the world is the only sentence in all of human history that can legitimately be punctuated with a comma.
Prayer - Jesus, Savior, Lord; Your finished work on the Cross marks the beginning of the new life available to us when we choose to take up our own cross and follow You. Help those of us who have said yes help others to make the same choice. Help us to finish our…

John 19:30
When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished,” and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
Christians today generally understand that Jesus' death on the cross, is the ultimate sacrifice for the forgiveness of sins, offering salvation and a path to reconciliation with God. The pain, torture ,suffering and humiliation endured by Jesus on that cross for three hours was for us, sinner then and still sinners today. Because of Jesus’s death and resurrection you and I can live eternally with God AND ESCAPE THE PENALTY THAT COMES FROM SIN. It is true the work on the cross paid the price in full, which…
