A daily prayer during this COVID-19 crisis
During these difficult days, members of the Seacoast District of the New England Conference are sharing a daily prayer based on the Revised Common Lectionary for the week. You are welcome to use these in worship or in your own devotions.
Today's Prayer
Based on Exodus 32:1-14; Psalm 106:1-6, 19-23 God of salvation, You are the Merciful One who listened to the cries of the oppressed and sent your servant Moses to proclaim you demand freedom for your people. You are the Powerful One who showed many signs and miracles, even dividing the waters so that your people could cross with praise and joyful noise. You are the Nurturing One who provided them with the manna and quail meeting their daily needs as you led them through the wilderness. And yet, as they built an image of a calf falsely placing their trust in it, we confess that in times of fear and vulnerability, we also create an idolatry today claiming that money justifies sacrifices of the weak and lowly, race does not matter anymore, and violence is justified for a false sense of peace and order. Forgive us, Lord. In times of struggles and devastation, help us remember that it is you, O Lord, who had done many great things to liberate your people from slavery in Egypt. It is you who did not even spare your Precious Son Christ to deliver us from sin and death because of your radical love for us. Remember and empower us with your Holy Spirit so that we may act with justice, do what is right in your sight, and proclaim that you are God who desires mercy and freedom for all your children.
